Why the Bamboo Wood Floor is considered Eco-Friendly? The bamboo plant is considered as the fastest growing woody plant. It reaches full maturity in five to six years depending on the climate. In comparison, other hardwoods used for flooring can take upwards of 50 years to regenerate. Bamboo offers about 25 times the yield of hardwood and it is more sustainable and renewable. The bamboo plant is harvested and replenished with virtually no impact on the environment. It constantly regenerates its self by sending runners that result in new canes. Even when poor agricultural techniques are used, the topsoil is not damaged when the cane is harvested. In fact, the bamboo plant’s dense leaf will actually improve the soil over time. Vertical Bamboo Wood Floor Bamboo wood floors typically are constructed with two grain orientations; vertical or horizontal. In the vertical-grain orientation, the individual nodes (refereeing to the joint in the bamboo cane) are less visible with resulting in a more consistent coloration and thinner grain look. In general there is very little advantage between the two when it comes to strength. It is a choice of wood floor ascetics and personal preference. Usually vertical-grain bamboo floors are installed when there are limited areas to make the room feel more spacious. The price difference comes from the labor associated in constructing the bamboo wood floor strands. Please refer to the pictures.Natural Bamboo Wood Floor The term “natural” refers to the color of the bamboo where no color stain was applied. The natural color reflects the true color of the bamboo strand and provides a lighter environment for a more neutral look. Bamboo Wood Floor strength and characteristics In comparison to Northern Red Oak (the most commonly installed wood floor), it is actually 22% harder and just as strong. Bamboo floor has a Janka rating of 1650. Floor Junkies Grade “A” quality Finish Warranty is 25 years. Bamboo wood floors typically expand and contrast approximately 50% less than other hardwood floors. Bamboo is considered incredibly durable. Its favorable characteristics, allows bamboo floors to be installed in homes with climates where high humidity and temperature variations exists and other forms of hardwood are simply impractical. |
Grade “A” Bamboo Wood Floor As a manufacturer produces the bamboo wood planks, they grade the plank based on color consistency and wood structure. Grade “A” quality is obtained when the wood plank’s color is consistent and with basically no wood defects. Many wholesalers selling on the internet change the name and do not refer to their wood flooring based on grade. They generally use names such as premium bamboo, supreme bamboo, etc. to confuse the consumer about the quality of their bamboo. They tend to mix their products with Grade “A” and Grade “B” quality in order to reduce the price. What ends up happening is that the installer ends up producing more waste. The consumer is tricked into thinking they paid less per square foot, but if they take inconsideration the waste produced the price per square foot is much higher. Of course, the consistency of the floor is also lower. At Floor Junkies, we teamed up with one of the largest and bamboo producers in the world. When you pay for your product you can be assure that you will get the quality we advertise.
